Stax Dev Corp|FAQ

Q&A on the Stax Development Corporation

Q:  Why Stax versus older and bigger firms?

A:  Because we’re up for solving big, gnarly problems, and we can put our money where our mouths are. Because we have the relationships, we know what adds value to our clients’ situations, and how to match them up. Because we’re nimble enough to develop a compensation structure that provides for minimal risk and shared upside.

Q:  Why now, when you have a young and fast-growing consulting firm?

A:  Some people work hard all their lives, retire, and then try to learn how to play golf.  It’s hard at an older age to suddenly learn how to play golf, and simultaneously discouraging at retirement to realize that you were missing this fun all along. So we decided to work on social issues far earlier in our careers, leveraging our expertise and relationships.

Q:  How does it play in with Stax’s traditional strategic consulting clients?

A:  Stax’s clients are exceptionally interested in hearing about opportunities to do well and do good.

Q:  Why for-profit solutions rather than just giving money away or asking for government funding?

A:  Profitable is sustainable.

Stax has provided millions of dollars in pro-bono work on a wide variety of societal needs.  In many cases, the only answer is pure charity, and we applaud those with the commitment and resources to continuously give. Stax contributes to many charitable causes as pure charity. However, pure charitable efforts are often inefficient, because there is no profit to pay for critical resources or to leverage existing infrastructure. Investing in a for-profit solution for social benefit is like investing in an annuity.
