Stax Obtained an In-Depth Understanding of Initial Decisions Made Regarding Part D Plans by a Targeted Demographic Group
Situation
A client in healthcare engaged us to help them understand the decisions made, as well as prospective decisions, by senior citizens in the U.S. regarding Part D Medicare enrollments.
Stax provided a greater understanding of potential formulary construction, consumer education and marketing as well.
The Client also used our capabilities to gain insight into whether service continues to provide little opportunity for differentiation, or if consumer attitudes toward service are changing.
Approach
We used targeted internet surveys and phone interviews to find out the reasons driving senior citizens’ decisions to enroll, or not, in Medicare Part D:
–Over 200 seniors who were ‘age-in’ were surveyed to get the views of those just entering Medicare
–500 seniors who were enrollees with our Client were surveyed to get perspectives on the Client’s services
–We spoke with over 500 enrollees who were not with our Client, in order to understand views on competitor services
–Also, about 500 seniors who were of age but had not enrolled were surveyed to understand their decision
Insights
Generally, Client-enrollees appeared to be more coverage and channel driven, while non-Client enrollees were more price driven.
Most seniors felt that formularies are an important part of their decision, but about half of the respondents were not aware of differences in service among companies.
